# Prerequisites for the Bilan Carbone® method

<summary>Have the documents required for the assessment been submitted?</summary>

In order to have its assessment evaluated, the Organisation submits the documents required to the evaluation team. The list of these documents can be found in the section dedicated to Reporting, in [Bilan Carbone® methodological guide](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliographie.md#guide-methodologique-bilan-carbone-r). To facilitate the assessment, an automated list is available in the[assessment tool](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliographie.md#outil-devaluation-des-bilans).

Some supporting documents remain valid for several years, and carrying out a regular Bilan Carbone® approach, (especially for higher maturity levels), should not force the Organisation to systematically redo reflections that remain relevant. The evaluator therefore has a validity range for certain Deliverables:

* The Action plan and its quantifications, the objectives of the Transition Plan as well as its trajectory, remain valid for a period of **2 years**. However, it is necessary to keep the Monitoring of the Transition Plan up to date;
* The entire Stakeholder engagement process and the actions carried out remain valid for a period of **2 years** ;
* for an Advanced level: The risk analysis remains valid for a period of **10 years** ;

<summary>Is the project team trained?</summary>

In order for the assessed footprint to be considered a Bilan Carbone®, the project team that carried out the assessment must be [trained](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliographie.md#formation-a-la-methode-bilan-carbone-r). The requirements vary depending on the [Maturity level](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossaire.md#niveau-de-maturite-bilan-carbone-r) of the Organisation:

* **for an Initial Bilan Carbone®:** The person or team operationally responsible for the assessment (internal or external) is trained in the Bilan Carbone® method
* **for a Standard Bilan Carbone®:** The coordinator and the operational staff (internal or external) are trained in the Bilan Carbone® method.
* **for an Advanced Bilan Carbone®:** The member of management in charge of the process attended the decision-makers' training. The Coordinator, the operational staff and any external support are trained in the Bilan Carbone® method. Referents from each department participate in the implementation of the transition plan and have attended the decision-makers' training.

The training courses taken and their timing and relevance must be in line with the [specifications](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliographie.md#abc-association-pour-la-transition-bas-carbone) data by the Association for the Transition Low carbon (Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC)).

<summary>Is the tool used compliant with the Bilan Carbone® methodology?</summary>

So that the verified assessment can be considered a Bilan Carbone®, it must be carried out using the Excel tool Bilan Carbone®, the BC+® software, or any other tool following the Bilan Carbone® method and having passed the tools’ compliance audit of the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC) (a list of these tools is available in [the directory of compliant tools](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliographie.md#abc-association-pour-la-transition-bas-carbone) published on the website of the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC).

<summary>Has management been properly involved in the Bilan Carbone® process?</summary>

In order for the assessed inventory to be considered a Bilan Carbone®, management must be involved in the process. The requirements vary depending on [Maturity level](/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossaire.md#niveau-de-maturite-bilan-carbone-r) of the Organisation:

* **for an Initial Bilan Carbone®:** A Coordinator is appointed internally. He or she is the Coordinator of the process, then is responsible for the development, implementation and Monitoring of the Transition Plan.
* **for a Standard Bilan Carbone®:** A member of senior management is in charge of the process. A Coordinator is appointed internally: he or she is the Coordinator of the process, then is responsible for the development, implementation and Monitoring of the Transition Plan. The main operational functions concerned by the Transition Plan also participate in its development.
* **for an Advanced Bilan Carbone®:** A member of senior management is in charge of the process. A Coordinator is appointed internally: he or she is the Coordinator of the process, then is responsible for developing the Transition Plan with the support of the main operational functions concerned. The implementation and Monitoring of the Transition Plan are the responsibility of the main operational functions and at least one member of senior management ensures its application within the Organisatio&#x6E;**.**
