# Verification and validation of a Bilan Carbone®

In a low-carbon world, the Bilan Carbone® approach plays a **crucial role in supporting all types of stakeholders**, from the least mature to the most experienced, in their **quantification of environmental impact** of an activity, as well as to **find effective measures to reduce its effects**.

Bilan Carbone® is a **approach for progress in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions**, both to reduce emissions, but also to assess its vulnerability and identify transition risks and opportunities for its activity.

The term “Bilan Carbone®”, in addition to the **method**, also refers to the **tools** distributed by the**Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC)**, which make it possible to carry out the necessary calculations. The result of the assessment applied to an activity or a territory is called a “Bilan Carbone®”, as is the greenhouse gas emissions diagnosis established through the use of this method.

A **training** is required in order to apply the Bilan Carbone® method and use its tools.

One of the fundamental aspects of this method is **transparency** throughout the entire calculation process, from the choice of boundaries to the means of communication to stakeholders.

The evaluation of a Bilan Carbone® thus guarantees the **reliability** of the results. It also makes it possible to**identify blocking points and areas for improvement** between two assessments of an organisation.

This guide provides the guidelines for **evaluating a Bilan Carbone®** and producing a report understandable by the various stakeholders who play a role in establishing a Bilan Carbone® (more information on the carbon accounting ecosystem on the [ABC website](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#abc-association-pour-la-transition-bas-carbone)).

This guide is compatible with the [Bilan Carbone® method](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#guide-methodologique-bilan-carbone-r) in its most recent version (more information in the hyperlink).

*To have their assessment evaluated, it is necessary to sign a **tripartite contract** with a certified evaluator and ABC, which sets the framework for the assignment as well as the confidentiality commitments.*\
