This section concerns the **people who will carry out the evaluation of a Bilan Carbone®,** compliance with the CSRD ESRS E1 standard, or a critical review of*s BEGES-R.*

## Composition of the evaluation team

The entire evaluation team is **trained in the** [**Bilan Carbone® method**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#formation-a-la-methode-bilan-carbone-r) **and is a member of ABC**. The evaluation team is led by an [evaluation lead](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossary#chef-de-projet-devaluation). **It is** [**trained and certified in the evaluation of assessments**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#formation-a-levaluation-des-bilans). The prerequisites for taking this training are set out later in this section.

The evaluation approach may be carried out by the evaluation project lead alone or accompanied by one or more people, as long as each of the following required competencies is held by at least one team member:

* **Evaluation expertise** : be up to date with their **training in the evaluation of assessments**, offered by the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC) and partner training organisations, and **be** [**certified** in the evaluation of assessments](#certifications-a-levaluation-des-bilans). This requirement is met at least by the project lead themselves;
* **Climate expertise** : be up to date with their Bilan Carbone® training and have carried out at least 1 Bilan Carbone® in the last 3 years;
* **Optional - In order to be able to provide limited assurance** : support from a chartered accountant carrying out the assessment evaluation assignment in compliance with their professional standard, or from an accredited person.

## Principles of the evaluation team

It is imperative that the people carrying out the evaluation did not take part in the process of producing the assessment to be evaluated.

The standard [ISO 14066 : 2023](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#iso-14066-2020) specifies the competence requirements for environmental management verification teams, including greenhouse gas assessments, and introduces the following principles for verifiers, which are used in the evaluation of Bilan Carbone® assessments:

* **Of**[**integrity**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossary#integrite)
* **Of**[**impartiality**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossary#impartialite)
* **Of** [**professional diligence**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossary#conscience-professionnelle)
* **Of** [**professional judgment**](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/glossary#jugement-professionnel)

This standard also defines the general and technical knowledge required of a verifier to carry out a GHG emissions verification assignment.

We stress here the need for independence of the people involved in the evaluation of GHG emissions assessments from those who carried out those assessments. ABC must be notified of any conflict of interest in the evaluation of Bilan Carbone® assessments.

## Training in the evaluation of assessments

ABC will from 2025 offer [training courses ](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#formation-a-levaluation-des-bilans)for experts wishing to carry out evaluations or critical reviews of BEGES-R, BR-CSRD and Bilan Carbone® assessments.

Some **prerequisites** are required in order to take this training:

* Be up to date with their [Bilan Carbone® training](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#formation-a-la-methode-bilan-carbone-r)
* Have carried out at least 1 Bilan Carbone® in the last 3 years
* Be a member of the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC)

## Certifications in the evaluation of assessments

The evaluation project lead must be [certified in the evaluation of assessments](https://www.bilancarbone-evaluation.com/guide-devaluation-des-bilans-en/resources/bibliography#certification-a-levaluation-des-bilans).
