The assessment team
This section concerns the people who will carry out the evaluation of a Bilan Carbone®, the control of compliance with the ESRS E1 standard of the CSRD, or a critical review ofits BEGES-R.

Composition of the evaluation team
The entire evaluation team is trained in the Bilan Carbone® method and is a member of ABC. The evaluation team is led by an evaluation lead. It is trained and certified for the evaluation of assessments. The prerequisites to attend this training are stated later in this section.
The evaluation approach can be carried out by the evaluation lead alone or accompanied by one or more people, provided that each of the following required competencies is met by at least one team member:
Evaluation expertise : be up to date with their training in assessment evaluation, offered by the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC) and partner training organizations, and be certified for the evaluation of assessments. This requirement is met at least by the evaluation lead himself/herself;
Sectoral Bilan Carbone® expertise : be up to date with their training in the Bilan Carbone® method and have carried out, during the last 3 years, at least 1 Bilan Carbone® in the same sector as the organization of the evaluated assessment (same NAF code);
Optional - In order to be able to attest with limited assurance : support by a chartered accountant, carrying out the evaluation mission of the assessment in compliance with their professional standard.
Principles of the evaluation team
It is imperative that the people carrying out the evaluation did not participate in the process of producing the assessment to be evaluated.
The standard ISO 14066 : 2023 specifies the competency requirements for environmental management verification teams, including greenhouse gas assessments, and introduces, for verifiers, the following principles which are adopted in the evaluation framework of Bilan Carbone® assessments:
This standard also defines the general and technical knowledge required for a verifier to carry out a verification engagement of GHG emissions.
We stress here the necessary independence of the people involved in the evaluation of GHG emissions assessments from those who produced these assessments. ABC must be informed of any conflict of interest for the evaluation of Bilan Carbone® assessments.
Training for assessment evaluation
ABC will offer from 2025 trainings intended for experts wishing to carry out evaluations or critical reviews of BEGES-R, BR-CSRD and Bilan Carbone® assessments.
Some prerequisites are required to be able to attend this training:
Be up to date with their training in the Bilan Carbone®
Have carried out at least 1 Bilan Carbone® during the last 3 years
Be a member of the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC)
Certifications for assessment evaluation
The evaluation lead must be certified for the evaluation of assessments.
